School Requirements

Inform all students and families of their educational rights
  • Posters, websites, newsletters
  • Enrollment forms and McKinney-Vento Eligibility Forms

Educate all staff on McKinney-Vento Act

  • Yearly trainings, and new staff orientations
  • Appoint a school contact at each school [have a list of contact people for each school for parents to contact in the district that we can add in and update every year- make into a document that pops up in a new tab as a PDF or something like that]

Keep your eyes and ears open.  Some potential warning signs of homelessness include:

  • Unmet medical and dental needs
  • Chronic hunger
  • Fatigue
  • Wearing the same clothes for several days
  • Numerous absences, and frequent tardiness
  • Lack of participation in field trips and after school activities
  • Mention of staying with friends or relatives
