Congratulations Suzanne Barnes for receiving the Outstanding New Choral Director Award

CONGRATULATIONS SUZANNE BARNES
for receiving the
Outstanding New Choral Director Award

being presented at the 2016 AMEA Conference

Suzanne Barnes

Suzanne Barnes, our Sahuaro High School Choral Director, was awarded the first Outstanding New Choral Director Award at the Arizona Music Educators Conference January 29th. She was nominated by Dr. Joan Ashcraft and selected by the Arizona Choral Educators’ Board for her outstanding achievements, service and leadership.

As a second year choral music educator for TUSD, Ms. Barnes has continued the tradition of musical excellence in Sahuaro’s highly respected choral program with her passionate love of music and her dedication to providing quality music instruction for her students. Prior to her TUSD experiences, she taught choral music, piano and music theory in Texas where she developed award-winning programs for her high school singers.

Dr. Ashcraft states: Ms. Barnes is a graduate of Fickett Middle School, Palo Verde High School, and the University of Arizona and as a result, brings a thorough understanding of musical excellence required of TUSD music educators. Her diligence, talent, and focus on student achievement within the arts have helped TUSD attain the national Best Community for Music Education Award two years in succession from the National Association of Music Educators. We look forward to her students obtaining high honors at Regional Choral Music Festivals, Solo and Ensemble Festivals, and selection as members of the prestigious All State High School Choir.
