Paraprofessional Exam Information

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires all ParaProfessionals (TUSD Teacher Assistants) in Title I districts to have one (1) of the following:

  1. High School Diploma or GED AND an Associate's Degree or higher
  2. Two (2) years of study (equaling 60 or more credit hours) from an accredited Institution of Higher Education
  3. A passing score in an ADE-approved ParaProfessional Assessment

Beginning January 2020, Tucson Unified will offer the ParaProfessional Assessment (Option C) for $45.

Information for Current TUSD ParaProfessionals

If you are a current TUSD ParaProfessional who needs to take the ParaProfessional Assessment because you do not meet any of the requirements listed above, you are eligible for this assessment at no cost to you from February 5, 2020 to May 22, 2020.

Starting July 1, 2020, every paraprofessional will need to meet this requirement in order to continue serving our students as a ParaProfessional. For more information about this opportunity, please contact us at
