TUSD Grading Recommendation Committee

TUSD Grading Recommendation Committee

Alignment to TUSD Strategic Plan: Curriculum Strategic Priority 4

Alignment to Equity and Diversity Department Core Values:

Equity.  We believe that each student should be provided equitable opportunities for learning, development, and academic success.

We believe that these opportunities should vary according to their appropriateness and cultural relevance and responsiveness to each student. We believe that different educational pathways, approaches, and supports may be necessary for each student to thrive and succeed in school.

Committee Purpose:

TUSD is committed to the achievement of every student. This commitment drives our system’s pursuit of excellence in equity. The COVID-19 crisis illuminated inequitable grading practices across the TUSD system. Additionally, internal data from quarter 1, indicates students are struggling in the online learning environment with a substantial increase in the number of students with F in one or more core subject areas.

Evolving from a Modified Grading Professional Learning Committee, the Grading Recommendation Committee will develop a recommendation to the BOE of a new system-wide implementation of an equitable grading structure.

Expected Committee Outcomes:

The Grading Recommendation Committee will:

  • Research best practice models in equitable grading practices.
  • Review, unpack, and analyze TUSD grading practices and process.
  • Develop a recommendation to the BOE of a new system-wide implementation of an equitable grading structure.
  • Develop a tool to support enactment of new grading structure for TUSD community.
