This award is Magnet Schools of America's (MSA) third highest honor bestowed on behalf of the President of MSA.

Susan King, MSA's current president, presented the award to Davis' principal, Jose Olivas. She said, "This award is given on behalf of all presidents, past and present. This Dual Language program integrates a bilingual program with multiple aspects of environmental science, with an amazing outdoor garden, and a performing mariachi band. All of this links the students to higher education and the community. This is a truly unique blend of language, music, and science."

Señor Olivas began his teaching career at Davis 31 years ago and humbly accepted the award, saying: "Davis is a family, which is why we are able to do what we do."

In addition, Tucson Unified received six other awards at this ceremony. Four Magnet School of Excellence Awards, given to only a select group of magnet schools that have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in all facets of the merit award application. These schools included Carrillo K-5 Magnet Elementary School, Davis Bilingual Elementary Magnet School, Mansfeld Middle Magnet School, and Tucson High Magnet School. Bonillas Basic Curriculum Magnet Elementary School and Dodge Traditional Magnet Middle School were presented with Magnet School of Distinction Awards, the second level of awards given to magnet schools. This is the sixth year in a row in which Tucson Unified schools are the only Arizona schools to receive Magnet Schools of America awards.

Congratulations to all of these Tucson Unified schools for receiving this national recognition!  The dedication and hard work is inspiring and makes the district proud.
