Coach Rich Utter to receive Cotton Award

Rincon UHS Boys Basketball head Coach Rich Utter has been selected to receive the "Spirit of Cotton Award" from the Phoenix Suns Charities.

Coach Utter has a distinguished career spanning the last 40 years, 38 at RUHS. As The Head Boys Basketball Coach, Coach Utter has won numerous Division titles and State appearances, highlighted in 2006 when the team finished as the State Runner Up. He has over 430 varsity wins, placing him in the top three winningest basketball coaches of all time in Tucson.

"Coach Utter has presided over a successful program by creating a culture where players are comfortable to approach him to discuss life and basketball. He is willing to do so much for his players to put them in a place to win, not just games, but in life". Justin Harden, Rincon alumni and current coach.

Phoenix Suns Charities presents the "Spirit of Cotton Award," an annual recognition that honors legendary former Suns head coach Cotton Fitzsimmons by highlighting an outstanding Arizona high school basketball coach for their leadership, dedication and service to the community in helping guide and mentor student-athletes.

As part of the award, Coach Utter receives a $10,000 grant for use in the school's athletic program. The Phoenix Suns will be at Rincon UHS to present the award at 11:00am on Monday April 1st. Coach Utter will also be recognized at an upcoming Phoenix Suns Game.
