Stephen Trejo, Rose K-8 principal, named 2013 Rodel Exemplary Principal

Posted January 15, 2013

Congratulations to Stephen Trejo, principal at Rose K-8 School, on being named a Rodel Exemplary Principal for 2013. This honor is given to seven outstanding Arizona school leaders who have been selected for their demonstrated ability to inspire their staffs to contribute to school-wide success and the development of a campus that is high achieving, safe, orderly and welcoming. Each cohort of Exemplary Principals provides professional development, field experience and ongoing mentorship to a class of Rodel Aspiring Principals. More information about this program can be found at the Rodel website.

Trejo also received this honor in 2012.

Under Trejo's leadership, Rose K-8 School received the 2012 NCUST Excellence in Urban Education Award. This award has been given to only seven elementary schools nationwide, and Rose is the first and currently the only school in Arizona to receive the award.

Four components that stand out in Rose's transformation include the positive school culture, a strong curriculum, quality instruction in each classroom, and support for students who are not yet achieving at expected levels. Rose K-8 is also a "Leader in Me" school, which follows a program to develop a culture of student empowerment based on principles from Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
