TUSD graduate receives prestigious place in the Fulbright Summer Institute

Posted May 29, 2015

University High School graduate, Brandon Dorr, has received a place in the Fulbright Summer Institute to study abroad at the University of Bristol.

Dorr is currently studying biomedical engineering at Arizona State University. He is also a student in Barrett, the Honors College at ASU.

The Fulbright Summer Institute is one of the most prestigious and selective summer scholarship programs in the world. Every year the commission selects around 60 UK and US undergraduate students to be a part of the program. Students selected are offered awards and summer programs for study or research in any given field, at any accredited US or UK University.

During his four weeks at the University of Bristol, Dorr will study the trans-Atlantic slave trade and its implications on current society. Dorr will be taught by professors in the Bristol community who are leaders in their respective fields. Dorr said this about his upcoming experience:

“While attending the University of Bristol Summer Institute, I hope to gain a better understanding of the relationship between economic and ethical decision making and its implications on emerging markets today. As a biomedical engineering major with an interest in economics and trade, the idea of being immersed in the living history of a large economic hub will provide an outstanding opportunity to mature as a scholar with a global mindset.”
