Hollinger K-8 to Receive $100,000 Fitness Center

Hollinger K-8 is one of three recipients in the state to win a Don't Quit! Fitness Center valued at $100,000.

The grant is from the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils and was awarded to the state's most outstanding schools for demonstrating new and innovative ways for promoting student physical activity and wellness. The two other schools awarded are Hulet Elementary/Junior High in Holbrook and Stanfield Elementary in Stanfield.

"I'm thrilled that three Arizona schools have been named National Fitness Champions and will soon be rewarded for their efforts with a brand new Don't Quit! Fitness Center," said Governor Doug Ducey. "These new fitness centers will give every child the opportunity to add physical fitness and wellness into their daily lives, which will help them live a longer, healthier life!"

Brian Lambert, principal at Hollinger, is excited for the students and can't wait to get the center up and running. "A fitness center on campus will have a huge impact on the health and well-being of our students," he said. "The center will meet an essential need at our school and in the wider Hollinger family. We are incredibly grateful for this awesome grant and the recognition of our outstanding staff and students."

Every Don't Quit! Fitness Center is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like The Coca-Cola Company, The CareMore Foundation and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. Additionally, TuffStuff Fitness International provides all of the fitness equipment.

"When I declared war on childhood obesity, I knew it would take an army of leaders to make a difference. I was thrilled when Governor Ducey joined our efforts to help put a stop to this disease in Arizona," said Jake "Body by Jake" Steinfeld. "The National Foundation is really excited to award three Arizona schools with new fitness centers that will have a lasting impact on kids well into their future."

The new fitness centers will be dedicated at ribbon cutting ceremonies this fall.
