Tutors and refugee students celebrate success

Tutors from the community and two faith-based organizations celebrated the success of ten graduating seniors who arrived in Tucson as refugees. These students benefited from weekly tutoring sessions in math, reading and writing. Students also asked their tutors about questions they had about living in Tucson and about their futures. Tutors expressed gratitude for understanding the struggles and triumphs in adjusting to a new life in Tucson and in Tucson Unified schools.

The celebration took place at Roberts-Naylor K-8 School. The tutoring sessions are an example of a highly effective partnership between Tucson Unified and the community. Our student services support staff supplied cultural information, translation services, space and connections with families and students.
