Improvements in AzMERIT Scores

Tucson Unified School District is proud to announce that many of our schools showed significant improvement on AzMERIT scores during 2018-2019.

Ten schools achieved 5% or higher growth in both English language arts (ELA) and math.

Eight schools showed 10% or higher growth in math and six schools that showed 10% or higher growth in ELA.

The following schools achieved these improvements:

Grades 3-5 showed the highest increased proficiency in ELA and math, followed by grades 6-8.

Summary of AzMERIT Data

  • Tucson Unified schools have showed improvement over three years on AzMERIT.
  • TUS has about 10% gap from the state average in grades 3-5 and about a 15% gap in grades 6-8
  • TUSD showed higher gains from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019 than the state average in the following grades:
    • ELA - grades 3,5,6, and 8
    • Math - grade 3
  • TUSD ethnicities showed increased proficiency in both ELA and math over three years
  • TUSD gains were highest in grades 3-5, followed by grades 6-8
