Supporting Literacy with Tablets!

Press Release - 09/28/18 (in PDF)

Who doesn’t love a little guessing game?  When a horde of cardboard boxes arrived in our Technology Services warehouse, we figured our community would naturally be a little curious, so we decided to pique curiosities with some pictures and an invitation for guesses.

We couldn’t keep a secret for long, though, with many in our astute #TucsonUnified community guessing correctly that Technology Services had received a shipment of 4,200 Samsung Galaxy Tab E NOOK tablets for use in our K-3 classrooms this Fall.

The tablets will run SuccessMaker and other literary-focused educational applications to give our early literacy learners a technologically immersive learning experience.  Each K-3 classroom will receive five tablets.

A young studet smiles as he learns on a tabletThe screen on the tablet shows the SuccessMaker app.

The Arizona State Legislature annually appropriates Move On When Reading (MOWR) funds to elementary schools for the purpose of supporting effective reading instruction in grades K-3.  Since the prime objective of our new tablets is to support literacy, they are funded by MOWR.

For more information on the tablets and the MOWR initiative, feel free to contact our Technology Services department at: (520) 225-6312.
