Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement courses enable high school students to take introductory college-level classes. Students who score well on AP exams are more likely to persist in college and earn a college degree.

Students earn college credit for taking an AP class and successfully completing the AP exam for that course, saving tuition costs, saving time, and giving students a head start on their college journey.

Students who have taken AP classes are more likely to be accepted into a college or university, since colleges and universities are looking for students who have challenged themselves in high school and have proven their college-readiness. A survey by the National Association of College Admissions Officers reveals that 80% of admissions officials cite college prep courses, including Advanced Placement courses, to be "considerably important" in college admissions. (2001 Academic Trends Survey).

Studies shows that students who take at least one AP class in high school have a significantly greater chance of graduating from college.

Talk to the counselor at your school to find out how to become involved in AP courses.
