Students from 20 TUSD schools win awards at the Southern AZ Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Posted March 18, 2014

Students from 20 Tucson Unified School District classrooms received awards in the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair held March 10-15 at the Tucson Convention Center.

The projects examined all sorts of scientific questions and topics, such as:

 • "Light 'Em up: Which cereal makes the best kindling?"
 • "Which is Better? Homemade or Store Bought?"
 • "How does the Viscosity of a Solution Affect its Diffusion into Soil?"
 • "Comparison of Locomotion and Neuronal Structure in Genetically Modified Drosophila Melanogaster"
 • "Walking and Texting: How Safe Is It?"
 • "The Effects of Bacteria Isolated from Wastewater On Sodium Lactate Microbial Fuel Cell"

More than $48,000 in prizes and 14 scholarships were awarded this year.

Congratulations to the following TUSD students on their winning entries!
