Tyler Fallwell, who was named player of the year in baseball, has signed with Cochise College on a baseball scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year. In addition to being named the Arizona Daily Star's player of the year, Tyler has also been named the Division III player of the year in baseball. A member of Future Business Leaders of America, Tyler graduated from Palo Verde High Magnet School with a 3.7 GPA.
Of these two athletes' contributions, Herman House, TUSD's Director of Interscholastics, says, "Considering the number of students in Southern Arizona that play sports during any given season, to be named the best is truly remarkable. Both of these fine young student-athletes have reached a milestone that places them in the rarest of company. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments. Certainly being the best player in Southern Arizona is something they can share with their grandkids!"
"The caliber of athletes like these two contributes a great deal to public education," says House. "It inspires others to strive for the very best. It speaks volumes to what can be accomplished if you stay focused on both your academics as well as athletic endeavors. They are a true testament and the definition of student-athletes."
House points out that all students participating in sports, whether winning awards or contributing to their teams without special recognition, show effort and dedication. "TUSD Interscholastics is proud of all the accomplishments of all of our student-athletes during the past school year," says House. "We are so proud of their efforts and commitment to represent our district and their schools with integrity and character. We are very proud to have three team state champions and three individual state champions representing this district, their communities and the city of Tucson during the 2013-2014 school year."
