University High School Seniors to compete in annual debate on Jan. 27
Students will take the stage to compete in University High School's annual senior debates on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium, 421 N Arcadia Ave.
Seniors in the Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics classes take part in a mock presidential election that concludes with the annual debate. Classes are divided into parties and develop platforms on international and domestic issues.
On debate day, the stage is filled with sets constructed by the parties, and the auditorium is decorated with flyers, posters and large mobiles that hang from the ceiling. Students in all grades attend the debates, and the junior class elects the winner.
Each year, the seniors invite a dignitary from the public arena to be their guest moderator. This year, the debate will be moderated by Dr. H.T. Sánchez, superintendent of Tucson Unified School District. He will facilitate multiple parties debating on both national and international platforms.
