At Summer Graduation 2017 on June 29, 152 students from twelve district high school received their diplomas. Congratulations, graduates!

Schools represented:  AGAVE, Catalina, Cholla Magnet, Palo Verde Magnet, Project MORE, Pueblo Magnet, Rincon, Sabino, Sahuaro, Santa Rita, THMS and UHS

Special guests and speakers:

  • Master of Ceremonies - Mr. Matt Munger, HS Director
  • Guest speaker - Governing Board president Michael Hicks
  • Student speaker - Yesenia Astorga, AGAVE graduate

Other honored guests included Dr. Trujillo, interim superintendent who welcomed our honored guests; Ms. Adelita Grijalva, Governing Board member; Kristel Foster, Governing Board member; Dr. Abel Morado, Assistant Superintendent, who was also recognized in the Governing Board president's speech for his years of service and wishing him a happy retirement; Mr. Scott Morrison, Chief Technology Officer.

Messages for Graduates:

From Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo: "It's not the end, my goal for you as that you walk out of here and you do whatever it takes to have a successful life. That means, being you and what makes you happy. I congratulate you and wish you all the best in health and happiness."

From Student Speaker Yesenia Astorga: "Now we can move forward with life, college and family. Thank you teachers for the support and to all the graduates best of luck in your new endeavors, make good choices and don't let the bad ones bring you down".

Sights and Sounds

  • Arizona Symphonic Winds directed by Lazslo Veres performed music for parents and honored guests before the ceremony began. Mr. Veres has been performing at summer commencements for over 10 years.
  • Some families traveled from out of state to celebrate the amazing accomplishment.  
  • Families carried balloons, flowers and posters to congratulate their graduates.

Plans for the Future:

Summer Graduates have great plans for their future: Some will be starting their professional training immediately and heading to college. Others have already selected their work path thanks to the training they received while in high school. Congratulations to each one of the 152 graduates!
