Custodial

The purpose of the Custodial Services is to provide a safe, healthy, clean, and wholesome educational environment for the students and staff of the Tucson Unified School District; to provide support services for school related activities; to be honest and friendly in all interactions with students, their parents, staff and faculty members; to promote professional development and encourage professional deportment of Custodial Services Department staff and to promote good public relations as representatives of the Tucson Unified School District.

This purpose is accomplished by providing support services to site administrators and custodians. These support services include:

Training	All custodians newly hired to TUSD are required to receive initial training. Every custodian attends an annual mandatory training where new procedures are introduced and existing requirements are reinforced.
Inspections	Sites receive periodic written reports documenting the condition of their facility. These reports acknowledge when district cleaning standards have been met and serve as a guide for improvement when standards are not being met. Inspections also ensure compliance with OSHA and Pima County Health Department regulations.
Substitutes	Substitute custodians are temporary employees who provide coverage for long term absences.
Rovers	Roving custodians are permanent District employees who provide coverage for short term absences.
Supervision	Custodial Services assumes direct supervision of middle and elementary school custodians when administrators are off contract during summer break.
Workload Assessments	Assesses and recommends distribution of custodial assignments.
Custodial Equipment	Custodial appliance repair. Equipment loans. Recommendations of equipment for purchase by sites.
Chemicals	Approval of all custodial chemicals for use in TUSD facilities.
Carpet Cleaning	Annual cleaning of all TUSD carpets is required.
Emergencies	Provide emergency response team for clean up of vandalism, floods, fires, etc.
