This year's event

The Year of the Rooster 2017 was featured on April 24 in the Student Recognition ceremony for Pan Asian American Student Services. The event took place at Catalina High School and opened with a Tae Kwon Do demonstration featuring several students and marked by a final board-breaking chop. It was followed by a traditional Nepali dance performed by two Catalina High School students.

Tucson Unified Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo welcomed families. "Your students make me proud to do my job. I am so happy to be here tonight with you," he said. After the ceremony, Dr. Trujillo stood with students, families and staff for pictures on stage.

Thirty Tucson Unified schools recognized students who had a GPA over 3.25 for the first three quarters of the academic year and any student who maintained perfect attendance. Over 300 students were recognized district-wide while approximately 100 students attended the ceremony with their families and crossed the stage.

On hand with congratulations were TUSD Governing Board members, Dr. Mark Stegeman, Rachel Sedgwick, Adelita Grijalva and Kristel Foster. They were accompanied by several directors and assistant superintendents from the district.
