PUPIL CONDUCT
BOARD POLICY 5300
Arizona law states that pupils shall
comply with the regulations, pursue the required course of study and submit to the
authority of the teachers and the governing board (School Board). Continued open defiance
of authority, or habitual profanity and vulgarity, and demonstrations or conduct of the
nature that disturbs the peaceful operation of the school are causes for punishment or
expulsion.
A pupil's conduct is expected to
contribute to the general welfare of his school and the orderliness of the school program.
He is expected to respect the authority of the teachers, the rights and privileges of
other pupils, and public and private property. (Arizona Revised Statutes §§13-2911,
15-201, 15-302D, 15-442B, 15-446)
In accordance with Senate Bill 174,

forth herein, students are expected to obey all rules and regulations adopted by the Board
for their conduct. Students shall not engage in any activities prohibited herein nor shall
he or she refuse to obey any order given by a member of the faculty or staff who is
attempting to maintain public order.
- Any student who violates these rules
and regulations may be subject to warning, reprimand, probation, suspension or expulsion,

to any customary discipline which the school district presently dispenses."

DISCIPLINARY

teacher in the same position as a parent, and the teacher has the same rights and
responsibilities in dealing with children in the school as the parent has at home. If a
teacher feels that paddling should be administered, he must first discuss the matter with
his principal. Corporal punishment should be used only as a last resort, but if used by a
teacher or principal, a witness must be present. Slapping, pinching, hairpulling, and
similar forms of punishment shall not be administered.]
CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IS BANNED.
