PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN THE SCHOOLS
BOARD POLICY 5700
The Governing Board recognizes the value of parent
participation to support student success and academic achievement. In order to assure
productive and effective partnerships between parents and schools, the Governing Board,
Administration, Faculty and Staff are committed to:
- Promoting the general welfare of children, supporting laws and
legislation designed to care for and protect children.
- Creating unity of action and support among educators and
parents for the benefit of children.
- Establishing effective two-way communication with all parents,
respecting the diversity and differing needs of families by developing guidelines that
promote widespread parental participation and involvement in school.
- Developing strategies and programmatic structures at schools
to enable parents to participate actively in their children's education.
- Providing support and coordination for school staff and
parents to develop, implement and sustain appropriate parent involvement opportunities.
- Involving parents in relevant and meaningful decision making.
- Working with parents to ensure good student attendance as
stated in District Governing Board Policy 5000, Attendance.
- Notifying parents regarding instances of student discipline as
stated in District Governing Board Policy 5060, Student Discipline.
- Notifying parents regarding philosophy and implementation of
the District's homework policy as stated in District Governing Board Policy 5115,
Homework.
- Allowing parents and guardians access to instructional
materials as stated in District Governing Board Policy 5701, Access To Instructional
Material By Parents And Guardians.
