New Superintendent Began Education Career in TUSD
New TUSD Superintendent Estanislado
"Stan" Paz started his career in education in TUSD in 1971 as a classroom
teacher in elementary and junior high schools.
His longest tenure was with TUSD
where he held a variety positions including director of state and federal programs;
director of bilingual education, and deputy superintendent.
Currently he is the Southwest
regional vice president for Sylvan Learning Systems, located in Baltimore, Md. The company
contracts with school districts to provide supplemental tutoring to at-risk students.
Prior to joining Sylvan, Dr. Paz was
the director for the National Academy for School Executives within the American
Association of School Administrators, also known as AASA.
For more than seven years he served
as the superintendent of El Paso Independent School District, which serves more than
65,000 students and has an annual operating budget of approximately $400 million.
In addition, Dr. Paz was associate
superintendent for the Dallas Independent School District. Dr. Paz received his
undergraduate degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona as well as his
graduate degree in Elementary Education. He also earned his doctoral degree in educational
administration with a specialization in bilingual education from the U of A.
