I would like to thank everybody who
participated at the opening of school celebrations.
We had tremendous turn outs for Dr. Paz's presentation "Creating a Culture of
Academic Achievement" which was held at three of our high schools. None of us will
ever forget the Morenci Marines and the passion generated in Dr. Paz's heart and ours as
well.
We are excited about the ArtWORKS Academy that will open in September. The academy is
another innovation of the Alternative Education department and is described in this
month's Board Report.
We're also enthusiastic about the continuation of the district's joint project with the
Assistance League of Tucson, Operation School Bell.
The project helps low-income students at certain school sites receive new clothing and
supplies they need for school, including jackets, shoes and backpacks.
The Board was also updated on the district's Multi-Hazard Safety Program by Carolyn
Collins, Principal of Secrist Middle School.
This district-wide program will train school personnel in developing consistent safety
plans for a variety of crisis situations.
Last but certainly not least, we are concerned about schools with consistent patterns
of low student achievement despite financial and people resources available in them.
Remember to keep the focus on student achievement.
Balanced Literacy is no longer considered an initiative; it is
"institutionalized".
Remember the TUSD Creed --
All Children can learn.
All teachers and
administrators are responsible for teaching them.
All other staff members are responsible
for supporting that mission.
Have a great year!
