Welcome to a new school year! We hope you had a
productive and restful summer.
This year we begin a new era at TUSD with Dr. Estanislado "Stan" Paz at the
helm. This report's featured article will help acquaint you with Dr. Paz by offering
information on his professional background and his goals for the district.
Furthermore, Dr. Paz will be sharing his vision for the district at a special
back-to-school presentation titled "Creating A Culture of Academic Achievement."
Please join us! For information on times and locations, please refer to the article on
page 3 titled "Back-To-School Celebration".
Over the summer, the Governing Board continued to meet. The June 20th meeting was the
last for Dr. Garcia and we wish him well as he assumed the superintendency in Boulder,
Colo. on Aug. 1.
We are pleased with the budget adopted for this school year. It will provide much
needed funding for additional counselors, pay-raises for teachers and more direct
assistance to classrooms.
New administrators were also appointed at our June and July meetings. This issue of the
Board Report offers a listing of new principals, assistant principals and others who were
assigned to a variety of schools and other district sites. Congratulations to the new
appointees.
We are happy to say that through the efforts of Lynn Webster and his staff, we've
obtained an agreement from the State Facilities Board to get funding for two more schools.
If everything goes as expected, these schools will be ready to open in the 2001-2002
school year.
Here's wishing everybody a successful school year!
Mary Belle McCorkle, Ed.D.
