Action Agenda Highlights 

Approved Administrative appointments, reassignments and transfers for: Marla Motove, director, Professional Development Services; Dr. Charles Ford, principal, Collier Elementary School. 

Approved Governing Board Policy No. 5061 - Discipline of and Alternative Interim Educational Placements for Special Education Students. 

Adopted Hearing Officers' recommendations regarding expulsion for four students. 

Approved the 1997-98 Meet and Confer Agreement between TUSD and Educational Leaders, Inc. (ELI) for Certified and Classified Administrators. 

Approved the 1997-98 Agreement for Supervisory/Confidential Non-Bargaining Employees. 

Approved the Bilingual Education/Hispanic Studies and Second Language Acquisition Committee Charge.

Approved 53 certificated new hires, 46 classified reinstatements/new hires, 173 certificated personnel contract changes, 283 classified personnel salary changes, 989 changes for credit increment, 27 certificated personnel separations, 59 classified personnel separations, 8 requests for leave of absence for certificated personnel, 14 requests for leave of absence for classified personnel, 1 request to terminate leave of absence, 2 requests to cancel leave of absence, 23 requests for released time, 26 requests for released time and travel expenses. Approved funding proposals: 

Arizona Department of Education, Special Education and Rehabilitation Services: Project A.C.C.E.P.T. 

U.S. Office of Special Education Programs: Project S.T.R.I.V.E.(Successful Transitions through Innovative Vocational Education and Employment) 

Approved agreement between TUSD and the Assistance League of Tucson for philanthropic project, Operation School Bell, at Van Buskirk Elementary School and the Southwest Educational Resource Center, with authorization for the Superintendent to execute the Agreement. 

Awarding of Intergovernmental Agreements between Tucson Unified School District and: 
  • Pima County Adult Education for Project EVEN START (Pueblo High Magnet School). 
  • Pima County Adult Education for the Arizona Department of Education Family Literacy Experiences (FLEX) Project at Southwest Education Center; Wakefield Middle School; Tucson High Magnet School. 
  • Pima County for the joint use of facilities at Cholla High Magnet School, with authorization for the Executive Manager, Fiscal and Operational Support to execute this agreement. 

Approved the endorsement of the Bill of Sale and Affidavit for Improvement Agreement at Brichta Elementary School. 

Award of Bids: 

  • No. 97BR - Bread for Food Services to Interstate Brands Corporation. 
  • No. 97CN - Canned Fruit and Vegetables for Food Services to multiple low responsible bidders. 
  • No. 97P2 - Perishable Foods for Food Services to multiple low responsible bidders. 

Ratified executive session determination to utilize District contract attorneys for Lopez et al v. Christ et al. 

Approved settlement of Gaskill v. TUSD

Approved ratification of salary and non-salary vouchers for the period beginning August 1, 1997 and ending August 29, 1997. 

Study/Action Agenda Highlights 

Review of the Fiscal Year 1998 Budget - Approved $100,000 to Exceptional Education Department; authorized another Special Governing Board meeting for further review of budget expenditures. 

Exchange of TUSD property on West Goret Road - TUSD Site No. 1, with authorization for the Executive Manager of Fiscal and Operational Support to negotiate, describe and submit a proposal related to the exchange. 

Sale of Site No. 95 (Pima County Tax Parcel No. 114-46-0230), with authorization for the Executive Manager of Fiscal and Operational Support to convene a Property Disposition Committee to bring report to the Governing Board. 

Review of administrative technology purchase and authorization to proceed. 

Information Agenda Highlights 

Student Advisory Council (SAC) report from Ellen Davis, student liaison to the Governing Board. 

Improving Student Achievement on Standardized Tests. 

Review of Administrative Regulation 3741 - Naming of a part of a district school, building, or site.
