  • Pro Neighborhoods: Multicultural Leadership Team Retreat (Cholla High Magnet School).
  • Arizona Department of Water Resources: Computerized Central Irrigation Control Project.

Approved Intergovernmental Agreements between Tucson Unified School District:

  • Food Services Department and the Arizona Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs to operate the Summer Meals Program, with authorization for the Director of TUSD Food Services to execute the Agreement.
  • Governing Board and the Arizona State Board of Education for Child Care Food Services for 1997-2000, with authorization for the Director of TUSD Food Services to execute the Agreement.
  • and the Arizona Department of Economic Security for funding of the Tucson High Family Resource and Wellness Center, with authorization for the Superintendent to execute the Agreement.
  • and City of Tucson for the design, construction, maintenance, and use of recreational facilities at Catalina High Magnet School - Phase III, Proposed First Amendment to Agreement dated June 3, 1996.
  • and the City of Tucson for the design, construction and joint use of additional recreational facilities at Richey Elementary School.
  • the Metropolitan Education Commission and City of Tucson Office of Economic Development for the Academy Without Walls, Catalina and Pueblo High Magnet Schools, with authorization for the Superintendent to execute the Agreement.
  • the Pima County School Superintendent's Office, and the Arizona State Department of Economic Security/Rehabilitation Services Administration for Exceptional Education Vocational Rehabilitation services.
  • and Pima Community College for continued participation in the Talent Search Project for eligible students at Hohokam, Pistor and Wakefield Middle Schools, Cholla and Pueblo High Magnet Schools, and on the Pascua Yaqui Indian Reservation.

Approved Statement of Charges and Resolution to suspend certificated teacher for 30 days without pay.

Ratified January 21, 1997, Executive Session determination to utilize District contract attorneys for Lopez et al v. Christ et al.

Authorized Governing Board Member(s) to attend the National School Boards Association 58th Annual Meeting, New Orleans, Louisiana, April 3-7, 1998.

Ratified salary and non-salary vouchers for the period beginning August 29, 1997 and ending October 6,1997.

Approved three (3) month extension for School-to-Work lease.

Study/Action Agenda Highlights

Adopted resolution for the Magnet Grant Application.

Adopted resolution for the Sale of Refunding Bonds.

Granted permission to initiate the formation of a Site Selection and Boundary Review Committee to study alternative site locations and recommend boundary changes pertinent to the construction of a new elementary school.

Approved exchange of property on West Goret Road - TUSD Site No. 1, with authorization for the Executive Manager of Fiscal and Operational Support to make the exchange.

Approved easement Agreement with "Sprint Spectrum, L.P." - Rincon High School, and Memorandum of Easement, with authorization for the Director of Risk Management and Safety Services to negotiate and execute a ten-year agreement.

Reviewed existing Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Tucson regarding lighting and related improvements at Cholla High School, dated October 28, 1996.

Approved Athletic Trainer Appraisal Instrument.
