Action Agenda Highlights 

Proclaimed:

  1. American Education Week in TUSD, November 16-22, 1997.
  2. Geography Awareness Week in TUSD, November 16-22, 1997.
  3. 4th R Week in TUSD, November 16-22, 1997.

Upheld decisions to expel two students.

Referred request by certificated teacher for a hearing regarding

Statement of Charges to a Hearing Officer.

Approved administrative appointments for: Richard Foster, Principal, Duffy Elementary School; Stephen Trejo, Assistant Principal, Hollinger Elementary School: and Marianne Hernandez, Assistant Principal, C.E. Rose Elementary School.

Approved the naming of Catalina High Magnet School Gymnasium for Mary L. Hines.

Appointed a Site Selection and Boundary Review Committee to study alternative site locations and recommend boundary changes pertinent to student enrollment and the construction of a new elementary school in the southwest portion of TUSD.

Approved funding proposals:

  • Arizona Advisory Council on Environmental Education c/o Arizona State Land Department: Discovering the Chiricahuas, collaborative project between Sam Hughes Elementary School and Tucson High Magnet School.
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration: Our Place in Space, 1997 IDEAS Grant, Borton Primary Magnet School.
  • National Science Foundation Teacher Enhancement Division - The DESERT Project, for District-wide Emphasis on Science Education Reform in Tucson.

Approved Intergovernmental Agreements between Tucson Unified School District:

  • and the City of Tucson for Lifeskills School-to-Work Program.
  • and Pima Community College District for the Aztec Middle College, with authorization for the Superintendent to execute the Agreement.
  • Food Services Department and the Arizona board of Regents/University of Arizona College of Agriculture Department of Nutrition Science, for the use of Food Service Facilities, with authorization for the Director of TUSD Food Services Department to negotiate and execute the Agreement.
Granted Right-of-Way easement to Tucson Electric Power Company for Davidson Elementary School.

Authorized Governing Board Member(s) to attend the Association for Supervision and Curriculum

Development 's Annual Conference, San Antonio, Texas, March 16-24, 1998.

Ratified salary and non-salary vouchers for the period beginning October 7, 1997 and ending November 10,1997.

Study/Action Agenda Highlights

  1. Policy No. 3515 - Employee Health and Accident Group Insurance - approved with revisions.
  2. Policy No. 5055 - Initiations/Hazing - studied only.

Reviewed Bids for the Purchase of Refunding Bonds, Series 1997, and adopted resolution, with authorization for the Superintendent to approve and deem final a preliminary official statement and an official statement.
