Approved funding proposals:
  • Carl Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Education Act, Arizona Department of Education, for TUSD Technological Careers Education Program. (continuation grant)
  • Proyecto Adelante, Arizona Department of Education, Discretionary Grant 2.3 to provide a nontraditional career exploration program for handicapped, Hispanic, female and male students. (contintuation grant)
  • Vocational Block Grant (formerly Priority Grant), Arizona Department of Education, Formula Funding for Continuation Grant.
  • US West Foundation Connecting Teachers with Technology Award, Borton Primary Magnet School. (new)

Approved request to cancel existing pest control contract with Zeb Tec Pest Control (awarded under Bid No. 6478) and authorized emergency procurement of pest control services from University Termite & Pest Control, Inc. through June 30, 1998.

Awarded Request for Proposal (RFP) No. 6539 - Comprehensive Financial Management/Human Resources Software System, to PeopleSoft Inc.

Approved plans and specifications for TUSD Food Service warehouse shell building addition and tenant improvements, with authorization to advertise for bids.

Adopted Resolution requesting the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Arizona for advance payment of State Aid.

Approved prior approval for released time for travel for the purpose of attending grant-required meetings with foundations and grant officers.

Ratified salary and non-salary vouchers for the period beginning November 11, 1997 and ending December 1, 1997.

Action Agenda Highlights

Appointed new members to Independent Citizens' Committee: Delma Araiza (2 years), Roy Cooksey (4 years), Maggie Gerring (4 years), Dorothy Lew (6 years), Patricia Martin (2 years), Gilbert Rodriquez 4 years), Rebecca Tapia (4 years), Joann Thompson (2 years).

Approved the 1998 Legislative Agenda adopted on November 17, 1997 by the Pima County/School Board Superintendent Collaborative.

Study/Action Agenda Highlights

Approved Governing Board Policy No. 4117.6 - Rules for Disciplinary Action Against an Administrator with the following changes:

Remove subsection 4 under paragraph III, and any reference made to "reduction in pay with reduction in job status" throughout the policy.
