At the January 5, 1999 Organizational Meeting, Carolyn Kemmeries and Rosalie López were sworn in as new Governing board members; Mary Belle McCorkle, Ed.D. was elected to the office of President and James N. Christ to the office of Clerk for 1999.

  • Proclaimed National School Nurse Day in Tucson Unified School District, January 27, 1999.
  • Proclaimed National School Counseling Week in Tucson Unified School District, February 1-5, 1999.
  • Proclaimed Fourth "R" Week in TUSD, November 1-7, 1998.
  • Adopted hearing officers' recommendations regarding the expulsion of two students.
  • Approved the administrative appointments, reassignments and transfers of: Lynn Niemann, principal, Fruchthendler Elementary School; Carmen Campuzano, principal, C.E.Rose Elementary School; Gary Reed, assistant principal, Myers-Ganoung Elementary School; Lisa Abrams, legal counsel.

    1. Arizona Department of Education - Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration Program, Success for All, Corbett Elementary School (new).

    3. Arizona Game and Fish Department: Amendment to the Heritage Grant, at Fort Lowell Elementary School .
    4. Governor's Division for Children: Proyector Presente! Truancy reduction project, Wakefield Middle School (new).
  • Approved Intergovernmental Agreements betweent Tucson Unified School District and
    1. the City of Tucson for Phase 2 of the Community Development Block Grant, Pueblo Gardens Elementary School Outdoor Learning Environment.
    2. Family Counseling Agency (FCA) and CODAC Behavioral Health Sciences, Inc. for Families and Schools Together (FAST), Rose, Wright and Cavett elementary schools, 1998-99 school year (new).
    3. the Interfaith Coalition for the Homeless to receive funds for construction of a Family Resource and Wellness Center, Catalina High Magnet School (new).
    4. The Pima County Sheriff's Department For Safe Schools Program (continutation).
    5. the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Clinical Training Services and Physician Consultative Services for 1998-99 school year, and Resolution authorizing the Superintendent or designee to execute the Agreement (continuation).
  • Approved the acquisition of High School Teacher/Classroom Workstations via Lease Purchase, with authorization for the Director of Purchasing to execute documents.
  • Authorized the Governing Board Member(s) to attend the 59th Annual Conference of the National School Boards Association, San Francisco, California, April 3-14, 1999.
  • Ratified salary and non-salary vouchers for the period beginning December 1, 1998 and ending January 11, 1999.
