ACTION ITEMS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Adopted hearing officers' recommendations regarding the expulsion of six students
  • Approved the administrative appointments, transfers or reassignments of: Larry McKee, principal, Catalina High Magnet School; Tariq Rasool, assistant principal, Hohokam Middle School; Cristina Lugo, assistant principal, Mansfeld Middle School; Wade McRae, assistant principal, Roskruge Bilingual Magnet School; Roland Carranza, executive director, Financial Services; Liz Whitaker, director, Information Technologies
  • Approved adoption of TUSD school calendars and Extended Year Opportunities calendars for the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 school years

CONSENT AGENDA HIGHLIGHTS

  • Reauthorized revolving fund for 1999-2000, with designation of the Executive Director of Financial Services as the Fund Custodian
  • Approved student activity and auxiliary funds bank accounts
  • Reauthorized petty cash and change funds for 1999-2000
  • Adopted resolution to approve continued participation in the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP)
  • Approved funding proposals:
    1. Arizona Department of Education: Safe Schools Program, Doolen, Hohokam, Pistor and Valencia middle schools; Catalina, Cholla, Pueblo and Santa Rita high schools (continuation)
    2. Arizona Supreme Court: Student Opportunities for Alternative Learning (SOAL), Doolen Middle School (new)
    3. Reading is Fundamental, Utterback: Magnet School of the Creative and Performing Arts
    4. U.S. Department of Education: Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), Wakefield Middle School (new)
  • Approved Agreements between Tucson Unified School District and:
    1. the Assistance League of Tucson for Operation School Bell (Cavett, Corbett, Hollinger, Roberts, Van Buskirk and Wright elementary schools and the Southwest Education Resource Center)
    2. the Arizona State Board of Education (Intergovernmental Food Service Agreement) with authorization for the Director of Food Services to execute the Agreement (annual)
    3. the University of Arizona for the TUSD Cooperative Teacher Exchange Program
  • Added Dunham Elementary School and committee members to the East Growth Task Force Committee
  • Awarded Request for Proposals (RFP)
    1. No. 6748 - Excess Workers' Compensation for a self-insured Workers' Compensation Program to The Mahoney Group
    2. No. 6751 - Audiological Services and Hearing Assessments for TUSD students to Carondelet Audiology Services of Arizona
  • Awarded Bid
    1. No. 6717 - new tires and tubes
    2. No. 6722 - tire retreading - precured, extruder built or equivalent processes
  • Approved plans and specifications for the completion of Drachman Primary Magnet School playground/park renovation, with authorization to advertise for sealed bids
  • Approved permission to proceed with the replacement/installation of Book Detection Systems in libraries at high schools and middle schools
  • Approved temporary revocable easement from the City of Tucson for the East Broadway Boulevard widening project
  • Approved amended settlement - Drake James v. TUSD
  • Ratified salary and non-salary vouchers for the period beginning May 1, 1999 and ending May 31, 1999
