Auditions Set for Annual Simon Peter Passion Play
Men, women and children of all ages can audition for the 20th Annual "Simon Peter Passion Play of Tucson", a three-hour musical-drama based on the life of Christ, scheduled to run during Easter at the Tucson Convention Center. Auditions will be held January 10, 17 and 24. For an audition appointment, please call 327-5560 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 294-7855 from 5 to 10 p.m. On weekends, please call 294-7855 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Center to Display Portraits of Cambodian Victims
"Facing Death: Portaits from Cambodia's Killing Fields," an exhibit featuring one hundred recently restored photographs of Cambodian victims about to be executed or tortured, will be on view from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays January 18 through March 1 at Center for Creative Photography located on the University of Arizona campus on the corner of Speedway Boulevard and Park Avenue. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. January 16 at the center. Ly Soung, a Cambodian-born Tucsonan, will discuss his family's flight from and death at the hands of the Khmer Rouge at 2 p.m. February 22. Free admission. For more information, please call 621-7968

TV Show Features Santa Rita High School
Santa Rita High School's Green Talon Nursery, Applied Biological Systems/Science class and welding class will be featured in "Beyond the Headlines," a program focusing on Tucson community issues. The program will air from 4:30 to 5 p.m. January 31 on KOLD-TV Channel 13.

Finance/Accounts Payable Workshop
Information on the new Account Code Structure which goes into effect July 1, 1998, will be provided at the next Finance/Accounts Payable Workshop at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the cafeteria at Palo Verde High School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega. Please RSVP anyone in Financial Services. If you have any questions you would like to see addressed at the workshop, please let us know when you RSVP.

Horace Mann Scholarships Available
High school seniors who are children of public school employees are eligible for Horace Mann college scholarships. Scholarship applications are available from TUSD Communications, 617-7303; and on the World Wide Web at www.horacemann.com (or write to the Horace Mann Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 20490 , Springfield, Illinois 62708). The program awards $50,000, including one $20,000 scholarship, to college-bound high school seniors who have at least a "B" average and score at least 23 on the ACT or 1,100 on the SAT. Completed applications must be postmarked by February 28, 1998.

National Art Contest Offers Winners Certificates, Scholarships
Imation Corp. is sponsoring the first annual Imation Computer Arts scholarships in partnership with the National Art Education Association and the American Association of School Administrators. Quality of art and creativity are the sole criteria for selection. The top 25 distinguished Finalists and National Scholarship Recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a trip with their parent, guardian, or school representative to Minneapolis/St. Paul April 18, 19, 1998, for the national recognition events. Safe Sitter Courses, January 24 and 31
A two-day Safe Sitter course for boys and girls 11 to 13 will be hosted by Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson. The course will offer medical instructions for handling baby-sitting emergencies and information on child development and age-appropriate activities. The course will be offered at the church, 4831 E. 22nd St. Cost is $30. To enroll or for more information, call 748-1551.

Folded Spiral Workshop
Elementary and middle-school teachers can participate in workshop titled "Educational Theories in Action," a hands-on workshop implementing higher-level thinking skills using the folded spiral, a circular folding book which helps students think creatively. Hosted by The Folded Spiral company, the workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. February 27 at the University of Arizona Student Union. Cost is $119 per person which includes "The Folded Spiral in the Classroom," a resource book, and blackline masters. Therapeutic Recreation Programs, through May 2
Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering programs for children ages 6 and up and for youth and adults ages 16 and over with mental, physical, emotional, sensory or learning disabilities at various schools and recreation areas through May 2. Individualized assistance for persons with disabilities who wish to participate in any of the other programs and activities offered by Tucson Parks and Recreation will be available. All programs will be held at Therapeutic Recreation Center, 1000 S. Randolph Way, unless another location is indicated. For costs and more information, please call 791-4504.

Spanish America Silver Exhibit Featured at Arizona Historical Society
Examples of silver craftsmanship produced during the Spanish colonization of South America will be displayed in the exhibit "Un Tesoro de Plata: Spanish Colonial Silverwork". The exhibit explores the history and development of the silversmith's art in Spanish America and can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays through September 1998 at the Arizona Historical Society, 949 E. Multicultural Counseling Conference Set for February
"Asian-American Issues in Secondary School Counseling", "Community Approach to Gangs, Drugs and Kids" and other workshops dealing with the unique issues mental health professionals face in culturally diverse settings will be offered during the "Multicultural Counseling Conference: Assessment, Intervention and Outreach for Diverse Populations" from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. February 6 and from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. February 7 at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona. Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House Museum To Sponsor Walking Tours
More than 20 historic homes, sites and buildings will be featured on a guided walking tour sponsored by the Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont Museum from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays through March 1998. The tours begin at the museum, located in the Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave., and proceeds though El Presidio Historic Area. Cost is $4.50 for adults, $2.25 for children between 10 and 13, and free for children 9 and under. Spanish-, French- and Scandinavian-speaking guides are available.
