La
Expo To Mark 30 years of TUSD Bilingual Education
Thirty years of bilingual education
programs in TUSD will be celebrated at the 2000 La Exposición de Apredizaje Bilingüe,
also known as La Expo, set for March 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pueblo High Magnet
School.
Organized by TUSD's Project Meta,
this annual event will mark 30 years of bilingual education with a variety of events
including the 18th annual Conrado Gomez Torneo Estatal de Ortografía and the second
annual Exito en Progreso Parade that will start at 8 a.m. from C.E. Rose Elementary School
and end at Pueblo.
New this year will be the Bilingual
Corrido Contest where a high school student will have their winning corrido, a Mexican
folksong, performed. Students in grades nine through 12, in and outside of TUSD, can
participate in the contest by writing a corrido in either English or Spanish.
The deadline for this contest is
Feb. 23. The first place winner will receive $300; the second place winner will receive
$200 and the third place winner will receive $100.
Corridos should be submitted in

La Expo will also feature a teacher
resource fair and food and crafts booths. Child-care and transportation will be provided.
