Children's Play Group To Present New Play
"Still Life With Iris," a play about a young girl from a magical world who goes
in search of her past, will run at 1 p.m. March 14 and 21 and at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on
March 22 at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott. Presented by Childsplay Inc.,
Arizona's theater for young audiences and families, the play will run in conjunction with
Arizona Theatre Company's "Rocket Man". Patrons for each repertory company can
view the other company's play on the same stage at a discounted price. "Still
Life" will also be offered to educators at a reduced rate of $4 per student, teacher
and chaperone. Regular prices are $15 for adults, $10 for students, senior citizens and

College Comes to Cavett
A free college fair offering information on financial aid, admissions, and career
choices will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 4 in the cafeteria at Cavett
Elementary School, 2120 E. Naco Vista. Biology lab, chess, and computer activities will
also be featured at the fair presented by Pima Community College in conjunction with
Catalina and Utterback Family Resource and Wellness Centers. For more information, call

Mariachi bands from Mansfeld and Roskruge middle schools, Tucson and Pueblo magnet
high schools, and from the University of Arizona will be featured at Mansfeld's Second
Annual Mariachi Fest at 6:30 p.m. on March 5 in the cafeteria at Mansfeld Middle School,

Tucson High Magnet School Will Present New Play
Tucson High's drama department will present "Noises Off," a farce about a
bumbling touring theater company, at 7 p.m. on March 5 through March 7 at the school's
auditorium, 400 N. Second Ave. An opening night reception, presented by the Badger
Foundation, will be held at 5:30 p.m. on March 5 in the school's Art Gallery. General

NAU Seeks High School Students for Summer Program
High school students can apply for the Four-Corners Upward Bound Math/Science summer
program at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Participants conduct research with
experts and get free tuition, books, and room and board. Students must be in grades 9, 10
or 11 and should have completed or be taking algebra and a high school science course.
They must also qualify for federal low-income guidelines or as the first in their family
who will attend college. Deadline for applications is March 13. For more information, call

Statewide Bilingual Education Meeting
A statewide conference focusing on bilingual education issues will be held from 10:30
a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 21 at Wakefield Middle School, 101 W. 44th St. Sponsored by the
Tucson Association for Bilingual Education, the conference will bring Arizona educators
together to formulate an action plan to promote bilingual education statewide. Keynote
speakers include Dr. Kenneth Goodman, of the Language, Reading and Culture Department at

Arizona Theatre Company To Perform "Rocket Man"
"Rocket Man," a comedy about a man who sheds his hum-drum life for one in a
parallel universe, will be performed from March 6 through March 25 at the Temple of Music
and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave. Presented by Arizona Theatre Company, the play will run in
conjunction with Childplay's production of "Still Life With Iris." Patrons for
each repertory company can view the other company's play on the same stage at a discounted

Children and Adolescent Literature Conference
Noted authors and illustrators including Ronald Himler and David Tineo will discuss
literature as a method of exploring issues such as prejudice, death, immigration and other
complicated topics beginning at 8:15 a.m. on March 7 at the University of Arizona's Kiva
Auditorium, 1453 E. 2nd St. Break-out sessions, discussion groups and author signings will
also be held. On-site registration will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Cost is $45

Spring 1998 Lecture Series Wartime Arizona
Colonialism in North America, Fort Apache, and German prisoner camps and other aspects
of Arizona's diverse military history will be discussed Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
on March 4 through March 18 in the auditorium at the Arizona Historical Society Museum,

WM Symposia Offers Free Teacher's Workshop
A workshop focusing on K-12 education in energy, environment and economics of radioactive
waste management will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, in the
Gila/Coconino Room at the Tucson Convention Center. Information on the effects of
low-levels of radiation on the body, science experiments with radiation, and utilization
of radiation detectors will also be available. Sponsored by the University of Arizona, the
American Nuclear Society, the New Mexico State University, WERC and WM Symposia, Inc., the
workshop will be held in conjunction with the annual Waste Management '98 conference. In
addition to the formal workshop, a tour of the of the Waste Management '98 exhibit area

Hispanic and Latin Art-Music Concert
