Children's Play Group To Present New Play
"Still Life With Iris," a play about a young girl from a magical world who goes
in search of her past, will run at 1 p.m. March 14 and 21 and at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on
March 22 at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott. Presented by Childsplay Inc.,
Arizona's theater for young audiences and families, the play will run in conjunction with
Arizona Theatre Company's "Rocket Man". Patrons for each repertory company can
view the other company's play on the same stage at a discounted price. "Still
Life" will also be offered to educators at a reduced rate of $4 per student, teacher
and chaperone. Regular prices are $15 for adults, $10 for students, senior citizens and

Holocaust Memorial Contest
A national contest for middle school and high school students is requesting entries of
original artwork and writing that focus on events that formed the prelude to the Holocaust
in Germany. The contest, sponsored by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, will award a
variety of prizes. Writing may take the form of stories, plays, essays or poems; artwork
such as posters, political cartoons, drawings, paintings or collages may also be
submitted. Entries must be postmarked by May 8. For entry forms and more information,

Fiesta del Folklore Mexicano
Mariachi groups from Roskruge Middle School and Davis Bilingual Magnet along with
professional groups Corazón de Oro and Mariachi Redención will be featured in
"Fiesta del Folklore Mexicano" from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 17 at Davis
Bilingual Magnet Elementary School, 500 W. St. Mary's Rd. Davis' and Roskruge's folklorico
dancers will also perform at the event. A Mexican dinner complete with carne asada, beans,
and salad will be provided for $5. Proceeds will be used to fund the Davis mariachi band's
trip to Disneyland where they will perform for guests. For more information, please call

Andy Tolson Elementary School will celebrate its 25th anniversary
throughout the school day with assembly presentations, a spirit rally, and musical
performances from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and with a carnival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 17
at Tolson Elementary School, 1000 S. Greasewood. Former principals and Tolson family
members will be on hand to take part in the school festivities. Proceeds from the carnival
will benefit the Tolson Reading Is Fundamental Project and the Tolson Parent Teacher

TUSD Student Arts Showcase
Tucson High Magnet School's steel drum band, Mariachi Áztlan from Pueblo High Magnet
school, a traditional African drum group from Booth-Fickett Magnet Middle School along
with seven other student groups from TUSD will perform as part of a recording session
titled "Spotlight on the Arts: A Celebration of Culture and Arts" at 3 p.m. May
3 in the auditorium at Sahuaro High School, 545 N. Camino Seco. Proceeds from the sale of
the session's CDs and cassettes will benefit TUSD Fine Arts Scholarship Fund. Donations
for the scholarship fund will also be accepted at the event.
Lyons 25th Anniversary Celebration
Lyons Elementary School will mark 25 years of excellence in education with games, a
rededication ceremony, and children's performances from noon to 3 p.m. April 25 at the
school, 7555 E. Dogwood. Former teachers, students, and anybody who has ever been
associated with Lyons are invited to join on the celebration activities.
TUSD and U of A To Sponsor Multicultural Conference
Actor B.D. Wong and Latina writer Denise Chavez will be among the keynote speakers at a
multicultural conference titled "Mirrors of Ourselves, Windows to Each Other:
Pathways to Multicultural Education in the 21st Century" slated from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. April 3 at the University Park Marriott, 880 E. Second St. and from 8:30
a.m. to 4 p.m. April 4 at the University of Arizona's College of Education, 1430 E. Second
St. between Vine and Mountain. Sponsored by TUSD and the University of Arizona, the fifth
annual conference will also feature workshops on hate crime trends, bilingual education
and other topics. Registration will be held from 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. April 3 and from 8
a.m. to 8:30 a.m. April 4. Registration fee is $50. Salary increment credit with a

Insurance Enrollment
Beginning April 1, the District's insurance office will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45
p.m. to take questions on insurance enrollment. The office will be closed during open
enrollment meetings at the following locations: April 13 and 30 - Tucson High Magnet
School, cafeteria, 400 N. Second St.; April 21 - Palo Verde High School, cafeteria, 1302
S. Avenida Vega; April 29 - Morrow Building, Maroon Room, 1010 E. 10th St.
April 30 is the last day for enrollment. For enrollment times and more information, please

Conference on the Family
Multi-racial children, step families and Native American family life will be discussed at
a conference titled "Conference on the Family: Celebrating Strength through
Diversity" from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. April 16 and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 17 at
University Park Marriott, 880 E. Second St. TUSD faculty can receive STEP credit for
attending the conference. The event is co-sponsored by Family Counseling Agency of Tucson

10th Annual Waila Festival
Tohono O'odham culture, dance and music will be highlighted in the 10th annual
Waila Festival from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. April 17 and from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. April 18 at the
Arizona Historical Society Museum, 949 E. Second St. A reception and an opening of a
special exhibit titled "One Hundred Years of Change: Tohono O'odham Basketry in
Transition" will be held on April 17. A young Waila musician workshop and an

Unity Club To Hold Cultural Awareness Event
Art shows, musical entertainment and community forums will highlight Celebration of
Diversity from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 8 at Rincon/University High School, 421 N.

discussions with Dr. Richard Carmona, director of Pima County Health Care System; Robert
Gonzales, president of the Greater Tucson Economic Council; and other community leaders.
