well-being of their community? If so, Full Court Press is looking for youth that are
willing to be volunteers for their FCP Youth Team. A description of the FCP Youth Team

ZOOM
During the 1970s, ZOOM was a unique kids-only TV series on PBS, featuring plays,
poems, films, and jokes - all sent in by viewers. WGBH, the Boston PBS station that
created the series, is producing a new ZOOM and looking for contributions from kids
in grades 4-8. If your students have come up with short stories, science projects, brain
teasers, plays, and more, submit them to ZOOM, Box 350, Boston, MA 02134. For

Administrative Internship Program
Friday, November 7, is the deadline for completing applications for the Administrative
Internship Program for the spring/summer 1998. The TUSD application form and two letters
of recommendation must be submitted to the Professional Development Department by the

Administrators Meeting
Remember to attend the General Administrators meeting on Wednesday, November
19, 4:00 -5:30 p.m. at Santa Rita High School.
G.A.S.P. Gallery presents "Ghosts of a Chance"
G.A.S.P. (Great Art by Students and Professionals) Gallery, the only student-run gallery
at a public middle school in Tucson, is opening its second show of the 1997-98 season.
With instructor Linda Proverman, eighteen students assume the responsibilities of curator,
registrar, security, docent, installer and publicist. The opening will be from 6:00 -
7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5. The Utterback String Ensemble will perform.
Musical Theatre will be hosting a dinner at 5:00 p.m. and presenting Sonny
Montana at 7:00 p.m.
Horace Mann Scholarships Available
High school seniors who are children of public school employees are eligible for Horace
Mann college scholarships. Scholarship applications are available from TUSD
Communications, 617-7303; and on the World Wide Web at www.horacemann.com (or write to the
Horace Mann Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 20490, Springfield, Illinois 62708). The program
awards $50,000, including one $20,000 scholarship, to college-bound high school seniors
who have at least a "B" average and score at least 23 on the ACT or 1,100 on the
SAT. Completed applications must be postmarked by February 28, 1998.
National Art Contest Offers Winners Certificates, Scholarships
Imation Corp. is sponsoring the first annual Imation Computer Arts scholarships in
partnership with the National Art Education Association and the American Association of
School Administrators. Quality of art and creativity are the sole criteria for selection.
The top 25 Distinguished Finalists and National Scholarship Recipients will receive a
$1,000 scholarship and a trip with their parent, guardian, or school representative to
Minneapolis/St. Paul April 18, 19, 1998, for the national recognition events. The top five
students each receive an additional $2,500 scholarship. Call 1-800-773-980, ext. 14, to
receive your school's official entry kit.
About two-thirds of last spring's high school graduates will enroll in
college this fall, either at the two- or four-year level. In 1973, less than half the
nation's high school grads went on to start higher education.

American Heroes in Education
The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. seeks nominations for its 1998 American Heroes
in Education Awards, a national program to honor teachers and principals who are making a
difference in schools across America. Individual teachers and principals, or teams of up
to six educators, will receive $5,000, with an additional $10,000 going to their schools
to support the programs that won them national recognition. Any teacher, principal, or
administrator may nominate a fellow educator. Deadline: December 5. For more

The Border Academy
The Border Academy is an intense, two-week program that will examine the political,
economic, and social issues shaping present-day life on the border. Fifty people will be
selected into the program based on their diversity of interests concerning the border.
