Focus on TUSD - February 2007

Governing Board News
The TUSD Governing Board voted to expand the District's Small Class Size Project to all first grades for the 2007-08 school year at its regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 13. The small class initiative, calling for no more than 18 students per class, was implemented for all kindergarten classes this school year.
Governing Board members also approved these agenda items:

  • Intergovernmental Agreement between TUSD and the Pima County Health Department for the provision and administration of childhood immunizations;
  • Renewal agreement and addendum between the District and the U.S. Air Force for the establishment of an Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) unit at Catalina Magnet High School;
  • Payroll deduction for the Opening Minds Through the Arts (OMA) Foundation;
  • Arizona School Improvement Plans under "No Child Left Behind Act": Warning Year - C.E. Rose, Corbett, Cragin, Lynn/Urquides, Maldonado and Robison elementary schools; Hohokam, Naylor, Safford and Valencia middle schools; and the Teenage Parent Program. First Year - Cavett Elementary and Wakefield Middle schools; Second Year - Maxwell Middle School; Corrective Action Schools - Roberts Elementary School; Restructure-Implementation - Lawrence Intermediate School.
  • Arizona School Improvement Plans under "AZ LEARNS": Hohokam Middle and Naylor Middle schools.
  • Reopening Lowell Smith Elementary School as Lowell Smith Middle School, grades fifth through eighth, effective with the 2007-08 school year.
