Ramona Grijalva. Rep. Grijalva administered the oath of office to
his daughter, Adelita, who was re-elected to the TUSD Governing
Board in November.
Governing Board President Adelita Grijalva was
sworn in for a second four-year term on Nov. 30 by her newly re-elected
father, U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva. Approximately 25 people attended
the ceremony in the Board Room of the Morrow Education Center, including
her mother, Ramona Grijalva.
Superintendent Roger F. Pfeuffer introduced Rep.
Grijalva by saying, "He's spent a considerable amount of time in
this room." Rep. Grijalva, who represents Arizona's 7th Congressional
District in the U.S. House of Representatives, served 12 years on
the TUSD Governing Board.
"Another four years of fun and excitement," said Adelita Grijalva
after taking the oath of office. She listed TUSD's long-standing
desegregation order, and improving the rigor in the district's educational
offerings as two priorities she'll work on during her new term.
"We want every child to have the same opportunities, regardless
of race, class, creed or gender," said Adelita Grijalva.

Bruce's father Bill Burke, left,
and Bruce's wife, Melinda, were present when Bruce Burke was sworn
in to a new term as a TUSD Governing Board member by Laura "Lolly"
Almquist, a former TUSD Governing Board member.
Governing Board member Bruce Burke was sworn
in for his second four-year term on Dec. 12 in the Board Room at
the Morrow Education Center. Approximately 25 staffers, family members
and friends attended. Former Governing Board member Laura "Lolly"
Almquist, administered the oath of office.
"It is a great pleasure to be back, I'm looking forward to another
four years of service," said Burke. He listed the following as challenges
the board will face during his new term:
- Finding a replacement for Superintendent Roger F. Pfeuffer;
- Closing the achievement gap;
- Insuring that students have every opportunity to learn, and;
- Being better stewards of district funds.
