Rincon students add flower power
Rincon High School students recently helped out with the "Flower Power: The Best Blooming Event of the Year" by carrying boxes, stuffing 5,000 envelopes and raising funds. This was a first-year event that raised funds to help complete the University Medical Center Infusion Treatment Center at the Arizona Cancer Center.
Lawrence has first Safety Day event
Lawrence Intermediate School staged its first Safety Day on Feb. 20 with many local law enforcement and fire department personnel on hand to show students their gear and explain their procedures.
Diana Johnston, the Lawrence prevention specialist, and Mike Buglewicz, the school resource officer in conjunction with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, hosted the event.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe fire and police departments; the Drexel Heights Fire District; the Pima County Motorcycle unit; 911; TUSD School Safety & Security; and Search and Rescue attended. In addition, a Black Hawk helicopter was on site.
"Our community representatives, monitors and parent volunteers made an incredible lunch for the sheriff deputies and firefighters," said Summer Harms, the health assistant at Lawrence. "The students, parents, teachers and staff really enjoyed the day and learned from everyone." |
