Focus on TUSD - May 2008

TUSD Assigns 7 Principals to Dual Sites; Six Retire
At its meeting on May 13, the Governing Board of Tucson Unified School District gave Superintendent Roger F. Pfeuffer the authority to assign school principals dual-school responsibilities. As a result, the following seven principals have received dual-school assignments for the 2008-2009 school year:

  • Jonathan Ben-Asher, principal of Henry and Wrightstown elementary schools
  • Teri Melendez, principal of Borton Primary and Holladay Intermediate magnet schools
  • Jerry Gallegos, principal of Manzo and Jefferson Park elementary schools
  • Cricket Gallegos, principal of Rogers and Sewell elementary schools
  • Chris Loya, principal of Davis Bilingual Magnet and Roskruge Bilingual Magnet
  • Ruben Diaz, principal of Carrillo Magnet and Richey K-8 schools
  • Diane Quevedo, principal of Bloom and Van Horne elementary schools

Resulting from dual-school responsibilities, the following principal moves were made for 2008-2009:

  • Ann Jackson will move from Henry to Howell Elementary School
  • Lisa Langford will move from Holladay to Collier Elementary School
  • Deborah Anders, Ph.D., will move from Jefferson Park to Davidson Elementary School
  • Lina Armijo will move from Sewell to Cavett Elementary School
  • Maria Marin will move from Roskruge to Wright Elementary School
  • Helen Grijalva will move from Richey to Dunham Elementary School
  • David Overstreet will move from Van Horne to Duffy Elementary School
  • John Bellasario will move from Dunham to Valencia Middle School
  • Senida Wade will move from Valencia to Palo Verde as an assistant principal

The following principals will retire at the end of the school year:

  • Joyce Geranis, Ed.D., Collier
  • Art DeFilippo, Davidson
  • Jeanne Herron, Cavett
  • Lisa Howells, Wright
  • Carolyn Eldridge, Miles Exploratory Learning Center
  • Angela Julien, Ph.D., Rincon High School
