Governing Board Meeting Update
At its July 10 meeting, the Governing Board approved a $376 million budget for the 2007-2008 school year, agreeing to provide $500,000 to the Opening Minds through the Arts program. The board also voted to allow up to $250,000 for an audit of District departments and programs. Members also agreed to create a five-member audit committee to ensure that the Governing Board adequately complies with its fiduciary oversight obligations. The audit committee is intended to help strengthen TUSD's internal financial controls and to help provide greater transparency of the District's stewardship of tax dollars.

In addition, board members appointed these educators to new positions::

• Michael Beck is the assistant principal at Pueblo High Magnet School. He was an assistant principal at Cholla High Magnet School.
• Francisco Morago is the assistant principal at Cholla High Magnet School. He was an assistant principal at Tucson High Magnet School.
• Lisa Long is the director of Curriculum and Instruction. She was the assistant director of that department.
• Kathy Prather is the director of Career and Technical Education. She was the assistant director of that department.
• Elizabeth Moll is the director of Professional Development. She was an assistant principal at Tucson High Magnet School.
• Albert Siqueiros is the assistant superintendent of Student Services. He was the interim director of Employee Relations.
• Steven Holmes is the assistant superintendent of Teaching and Learning. He was the director of School Improvement.
• Robin Dunbar is the assistant principal at Blenman Elementary School. She was the assistant principal at Oyama Elementary School.
• Christopher Bonn is an assistant principal at Tucson High Magnet School. He was an assistant principal at Challenger Middle School in the Sunnyside School District.
• Jennifer Prileson is an assistant principal at Tucson High Magnet School. She was a science teacher at Catalina Foothills High School.
