Committee Will Help in Superintendent Search
At its regular meeting on Dec. 11, the TUSD Governing Board members
voted to form a superintendent search advisory committee to provide
community input in the screening of applications for the district's
Superintendent position. Specific groups and organizations have
been invited to submit nominations to the committee. The approved
procedures for the formation of the committee are posted below.
(Note: these procedures were revised 12/19/07. The revised version
is posted.)
Development and Operation of the Superintendent Search
Advisory Committee
Members of the Advisory Committee shall consist of 22 persons. Each
TUSD Governing Board member shall individually appoint one person
to serve on the Committee. Each of the following committees, groups
and organizations shall also nominate two persons eligible to serve
on the Advisory Committee. Nominations are due by Wednesday, January
9, 2008, by 4:30 p.m. MST. Nominations must be made on the nomination
form supplied by the District. (Board Office or Web Site) The Board
shall pick one of the nominees from each group to serve on the Advisory
Committee. The committees, groups and organizations that shall submit
nominations to the TUSD Governing Board are:
Tucson Education Association (TEA)
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
Educational Leaders, Inc. (ELI)
Communication Workers of America (CWA)
School Community Partnership Council (SCPC)
Education Enrichment Foundation (EEF)
Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SSAC)
Independent Citizens Committee (ICC)
District Advisory Committee (DAC)
Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC)
TUSD Bond Fiscal Oversight Committee (BFOC)
TUSD Governing Board Audit Committee
Opening Minds Through the Arts (OMA) Advisory Board
African American Advisory Committee
Mexican American/Raza Studies Community Advisory Board
Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee
Pan Asian American Studies Advisory Committee
All nominees from these groups shall be subject to TUSD Governing
Board approval and appointment. Except for Governing Board Member
appointments, each nominee must be a current member of the committee,
organization or group that selects the nominee. Nominees may not
be a current member of more than one of the committees, groups and
organizations listed above.
No more than ten of the members of the Committee may be current
employees of TUSD. The Governing Board will select committee members
in a manner that ensures the Advisory Committee reflects the community
TUSD serves.
The Advisory Committee will meet all day on Saturday, February
2, and Sunday, February 3, 2008, to do a paper screening, reviewing
the resumes and applications of Superintendent candidates. The ASBA
Search Consultant will organize and facilitate the meetings. The
Advisory Committee will forward to the TUSD Governing Board its
top ten candidates. The candidates shall not be ranked by the Advisory
Committee except by the determination that a candidate falls within
the top ten group.
The Advisory Committee may list the positives and negatives it
sees in the resumes and applications of each candidate.
All members of the Advisory Committee shall sign a confidentiality
agreement that they will not disclose the contents of application
materials or of discussions held during the meetings. The confidentiality
agreement will require that members of the Advisory Committee not
disclose information regarding the search except as required by
law. The TUSD Board firmly believes that we will have the best quality
applicants if we can assure the greatest level of confidentiality
provided by the law.
The TUSD Governing Board shall make its selection from the list
of candidates screened as above unless there is no candidate from
the group who can obtain Board approval.
