Stagg donates $1,000 to TUSD Clothing Bank
Because of Lillian Stagg's $1,000 donation to the TUSD Clothing Bank, many children will have supplies and clothing for their days in school.
Stagg, whose there children were TUSD students, set her contribution along with a handwritten note to Chris Molina, the Clothing Bank coordinator, after reading a recent newspaper story about the need for donations.
"My mother, using her Singer sewing machine, made five dresses for each of her three little girls," Stagg wrote. "As she made them, we learned how to cut out a pattern and stitch up the pieces using the treadle sewing machine."
Stagg wrote that she wanted to honor a teacher of her children, Rosalie Montgomery. "You should start a program and let us tell you about some wonderful teachers," she wrote.
Reading apprenticeship course helps middle and high school staff
A reading apprenticeship introductory course is offered in October for staff members who work with students and teachers from the sixth grade through the 12th grade.
Introduction to Reading Apprenticeship is open to middle and high school staff in all content areas. The three-day intensive workshop explores the main ideas behind reading apprenticeship. Participants study the four dimensions of classroom life that support literacy learning, gather ideas for teaching reading that is specific to each content area, and learn how to implement the ideas in the classroom.
Participants receive a supplementary binder of classroom applications, support for implementation and salary increment credit for the two Saturdays.
