A collection of paintings by Tucson artist Gail Orlen will be exhibited Jan. 12 through Feb. 24 at the G.A.S.P. Gallery located at
Utterback Magnet Middle School, 3233 S. Pinal Vista. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Wednesdays.
Orlen, who earned her master’s of fine arts at the University of Arizona, uses brilliant color and shadow to bring her realistic paintings to life. She adds visual complexity to everyday subject matter, conveying a dream-like state to the viewer. She is currently an instructor at Tucson Museum of Art School. Her work has been exhibited across the country since 1975 and is currently part of the City of Tucson’s Portable Art Collection.
Utterback is a TUSD magnet school with a focus on the creative and performing arts. Fifteen students assume the responsibilities of curator, registrar, security, docent, installer, and publicist run the G.A.S.P. Gallery, which stands for Great Art by Students and Professionals. Art instructor Linda Poverman leads the project.
