Safford Family Night Event To Feature Math and Science Activities

Math activities, guided star gazing and jazz music will highlight Family Math Night from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at Safford Magnet Middle School, 200 E. 13th St. 

Hands-on activities such as moon journals, optic experiments, and crater art work using papier-mâché will be held in conjunction with star gazing activities to demonstrate the relationship between math and science. 

Members of the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association will also be on hand to assist participants with locating constellations through high-powered telescopes. Safford’s Jazz Band will perform and refreshments will be available. 

The event will be funded through the three-year $100,000 federal Magnet Assistance Math Grant awarded to Safford during the 2003-2004 school year.
