Rincon High School's Students Against Destructive Decisions, also known as SADD, will sponsor a benefit concert for Youth On Their Own from
6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 19 at Skrappy's, 201 E. Broadway.
Six rock and punk bands, including high school bands Fowler and Seven Day, will perform at the concert to benefit the non-profit organization that specializes in school dropout prevention for homeless and near homeless youth ages 8 - 22.
"It's important for youth to show support for their peers who are struggling to stay in school," said Mike Peel, SADD president and a student at Rincon High School, 421 N. Arcadia Blvd.
SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions, is a school-based organization dedicated to addressing the issues of underage drinking, impaired driving, drug use, and other destructive decisions of young people. Its mission is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the serious issues young adults are facing today.
Youth On Their Own started in 1986 at the Amphitheater school district and now has spread throughout all the districts in Pima County and the City of Tucson. It focuses on the young people who find themselves, for various reasons, on their own without their parents.
