More than 100 students will march to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., through
Thurs., Jan. 15, from 11 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and Wed. from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the recess field at Jefferson Park Elementary
School, 1701 E. Seneca.
Students in grades kindergarten through fifth have logged up to 70 laps each around a student-made course since beginning their trek on Jan. 5. They have also been reading and learning about Dr. King and his kindness and justice principles, which students are implementing by encouraging each other and tracking other students’ progress. Teachers are also participating.
Jefferson Park students will earn a certificate of participation from the Do Something program, a national program that fosters leadership, citizenship, and character. Schools can become involved by signing up on the Do Something website,
www.dosomething.org.
