The TUSD Guidance and Counseling Department has been awarded a three-year, $1.2 million U.S. Department of Education grant titled “Counselors and Parent Partnerships”, also called CAPPs. An informational meeting for TUSD employees involved with the grant will be held at
4 p.m. on Jan. 22 in the Maroon Room at the TUSD Morrow Ed.
Center, 1010 E. 10th St.
The CAPPs grant will allow TUSD to expand school counseling programs and parent partnerships at eight elementary schools, impacting approximately 3,745 students in the first year. CAPPs will increase TUSD’s Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance program, which enables students to acquire the educational, occupational, and social competencies necessary to function in a changing society.
The schools that will benefit from the CAPPs grant are Davidson Elementary School, Duffy Elementary School, Erickson Elementary School, Ford Elementary School, Lyons Elementary School, Maldonado Elementary School, Reynolds Elementary School, and Vesey Elementary School. TUSD was one of only 60 school entities nationally to be awarded the grant. The CAPPs grant is the third federal elementary school counseling demonstration grant TUSD has been awarded over the past nine years.
