National Consultant To Cover
Teen Diversity and Communication at Parent University

National educational consultant Ruth Fisher will make a presentation to parents, students and community members during a Parent University workshop from
6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 1 at Howenstine High Magnet School, 555 S. Tucson Blvd.
Ms. Fisher will discuss cultural diversity among teenagers and how parents and other adults can effectively communicate with them. The presentation is part of Howenstine’s Parent University, a series of workshops offering parents information on how they can effectively participate in their children’s academic success.
Ms. Fisher is a peer consultant with Pennsylvania Service-Learning Alliance service, the training and technical assistance provider for the Department of Education's Learn and Serve program in Pennsylvania. The PSLA training events emphasize the integration of service-learning with the curriculum and academic standards. With offices at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania, the PSLA staff is able to meet the needs of public school teachers and administrators statewide and throughout the nation.
Howenstine High Magnet School is a service learning magnet school that provides community service learning experience to its students through its high school curriculum. One of the school’s goals is to develop the magnet focus of service learning by concentrating on partnerships with families and community organizations to improve student achievement.
