Asian New Year Dance Concert Celebrates Year of the Dog

Traditional dances from Asian countries such as Japan, China, Korea and Vietnam will be performed by students and Asian organizations from throughout Tucson during the seventh annual Pan Asian Lunar New Year Celebration Dance Concert from
10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 27 at Tucson High Magnet School, 400 N. Second Ave.
Celebrating the Year of the Dog, the concert will feature students from various organizations such as the Tucson Chinese School and school districts including TUSD, Marana and Amphitheater. Students will perform alongside adults in a Chinese lion dance, a Japanese Odaiko drumming, and Korean and Thai dances.
According to the lunar calendar, the Asian New Year will begin on Jan. 29 marking the beginning of the year 4704. The lunar New Year is celebrated throughout China, Korea and Vietnam and other Asian countries like Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam and is considered the most important holiday of the year.
About 900 students are expected to participate in the event organized by TUSD's Pan Asian American Studies Department with volunteers from many Tucson Asian communities. For more information on TUSD’s Pan Asian Studies Department, please visit:
