24th Annual School Counselor-Administrator Celebration Breakfast

Over 500 southern Arizona school counselors, administrators, and community members will mark the kickoff of National School Counseling Week at the 24th Annual School Counselor-Administrator Celebration Breakfast at 7 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 4 in the grand ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon.

TUSD principal coach James Fish will give the keynote speech “School Counselors: Key to Student Achievement.” Following the festivities will be two optional workshops. At 9:30 a.m., Jay Carey, Director of the Center for School Counseling Outcome Research at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, will highlight “Data Driven School Counseling Programs,” and at 12:30 p.m. representatives from Creative Spirit will present “Healthy Play.” Judy Bowers, president of American School Counseling Association, and coordinator for TUSD’s Guidance and Counseling Department will also attend.

Cost for the breakfast is $17 per person, which includes either an all-American breakfast or a fruit plate with yogurt dip. Cost of the optional workshops is $10 per workshop, per person. Interested persons can call Beth Counts in TUSD’s Guidance and Counseling Department at 225-6211 for more information and registration materials. The event is sponsored by the Tucson Area School Counselors.

National School Counseling Week is celebrated nationally Feb. 7 through Feb. 11. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, the week honors the contributions made by school counselors and focuses public attention on the educational benefit comprehensive school counseling programs have on students.
